I hear they released two people from Somali Piraates, but not many other details.

    Nicely done.

I expect these pirates will eventually learn to stay off the cell phones at places they don't want to be raided. I'm assuming this is how they found out where the hostages were located.

I'm glad those people were saved. They did a very good job. Their intention was to take the pirates so they could be tried but the pirates decided on suicide by SEAL. No problem... But now that these fine fellows have taken to chopping off arms and dragging old women out of their wheelchairs as well as just killing people, it may be time to consider cleaning out those rat's nests along the coast. The Caribbean, Barbary Coast, Indonesia - eliminate the base and that eliminates the pirate. It's sad, very sad for the Somalis.

It's the only way to deal with terrorists. Our seals are getting it done.

Taking nothing away from those boys, but the timing on the evening of the State of the Union Address raises my conspiracy-theory hackles.

Since when is Navy Seals killing terrorists who are holding American hostages for ransom have anything to do with a conspiracy?

I thought that team was killed in Afghanistan when those helicopters were shot down?

Not likely, but within the realm of possibility. It is an election year.

I think the solution to the pirates needs to be a solid military response. The US and allies need to re-develop a light strike force of small vessels similar to the PT boats of WW 2. Small, well armed and fast to search and destroy the pirates ships and locate their bases of operations. Then a tactical strike by Special Forces could take care of the problem.

Some of them were. Not all of the team, which may be hundreds.

I don't believe it had anything to do with it since the president didn't mention it in his speech. We didn't know about it until later.

Announcing it would have been too transparent. It did, however, reenforce his claim to the warrior mantle.

Just before the speech, the President was overheard on an open mike to say to Secty of Defense Paneta: "Good job. Good job". An alert NBC reporter heard this and checked with his Pentagon contacts and the story was made public.

Speculating on the timing of the event with absolutely no knowledge of what led to the operation is not productive.

If the truth were told, Seal Team 6 has has carried out missions like this for many years without any press.
