I am looking to visit Gettysburg this year and for a boarding house with a real civil war / 19th century feel to it, in or near town. I am also looking for a family, informal, atmosphere with an interesting clientèle of Civil War buffs such as myself. Large, impersonal, multi-national, faceless hotels need not apply !!

    Many thanks in advance

    Matt

Matt, do you mind if we move this to the battlefields and travel forum? And make the title more specific. Might generate more suggestions for you.

You might also check out existing threads on where to stay and what to to while at Gettyburg. We've had some pretty good ones in the past. Just use the search function or go to the travel forum....

Matt - I talked to the local tourism rep today, and she said all of the bed and breakfast type places in town sound like what you are looking for. Here are some in Gettysburg town and close to the battlefield:

    www.brafferton.com (at 44 York Street)

    www.brickhouseinn.com (at 452 Baltimore Street)

www.doubledayinn.com (that Crazy D mentioned, at 104 Doubleday Avenue, north side of town)

www.farnsworthhouseinn.com (a bit on the "ghost tour" side, but great peanut soup in the tavern - 401 Baltimore Street)

    www.dobbinhouse.com (89 Steinwehr Avenue)

    www.TilliePierce.com (301-303 Baltimore Street)

There are several others, so try www.gettysburgbedandbreakfast.com for ideas.

It is the only b & B on the battlefield and it meets all of your requirements.
